The series has been very successful in promoting the sport of wheelchair racing in British Columbia's lower mainland region and throughout the province. Since its beginning in 1995 there has been a 300% increase in the number of athletes participating in the Series. Numbers of athletes racing in individual races in the Series have increased form 2 to twenty per race prior to 1995 to the present field of twenty athletes at each race. The male and females competing in this year's races are representative of a wide range of disabilities, ages, and ethnicities. A classification system is in place to allow athletes with different levels of abilities to participate on a level playing field. We are proud to encourage competition between able-bodied and disabled athletes within the open (T54) classification category. |
